AMERICANA ARTIST SARA JEAN STEVENS ANNOUNCES SOPHMORE EP, SHARES HAUNTING NEW SINGLE “THAW”

Feat. Bassist Matt Patton (Drive by Truckers) and Guitarist Taylor Hollingsworth (Conor Oberst and the Mystic Valley Band)
FFO: Emmylou Harris, Courtney Marie Andrews, Mazzy Star, Sierra Ferrel

With influences ranging from Emmylou Harris and Joni Mitchell to JJ Cale, artist Sara Jean Stevens is carving out her own unique place in the Americana music scene. Her music has a unique sound, blending intricate melodies with roadhouse energy. Classically trained on vocals and piano, she has spent her life immersed in music. For the past 20 years she toured the world playing with various bands before deciding to step into the spotlight with her own music, opening for acclaimed artists like John Hiatt, Rhett Miller (Old 97s), The Wood Brothers, Nora O’Connor, and Whitehorse, among others.

“I couldn’t be happier with how Lovesick turned out,” says Sara Jean, “This was my second time recording with 'Bobby Matt' Patton (Drive by Truckers) at his studio Dial Back Sound in Water Valley, Mississippi. Not only is he an incredible bass player, he’s also a really great person. He has a way of pulling together the most hard working, kind folks who make the recording process seamless. A few days before I flew down there, Taylor Hollingsworth released his newest album, Yahola, and I absolutely freaked out over his guitar tone. I asked him to bring that sound and energy to the table, and he definitely delivered.”

On the single Sara shares, “Thaw’ is my love song for the black hills. I was a wild, young hemp activist living in South Dakota when I turned 21. I moved there to work alongside the Lakota Indian tribe, fighting for their right to grow hemp as a crop. I spent my free time playing shows and exploring the black hills. That area of the country has imprinted on me like nowhere else. There’s a magic you can’t explain to anyone who hasn’t experienced it for themselves.”
